Dear Father and Mother, I now embrace the opportunity of dropping you a few lines to let you (know) that I have been very sick with the measles and have had a hard time up till now. I think that I am out of danger by taking good care of myself for a few days. I should like to see you all very much though I don't know when that will be as the war is on hand and we can't tell when it will cease. You can tell just as much about the war as I can tell you. I haven't got much to write you. There is a great many cases of measles in our regiment and some cases of fever as well as measles. We don't know when we will leave nor where we will go though I think we will go to Manassas. The whole of the forces seem to concentrate there. We will be ready to fight just as soon as we can, yet Will and I think we should make a pretty good fight right now. At any rate, we would be willing to try our hands. I will close by saying that I want you to write to me just as soon as you can and let me know how you are all getting along.

Nothing more but still remain
