     Dear son,
I seat myself this evening to write you a few lines which
leaves me well and hoping at the same time that these few lines may   reach you safe and find you well and doing well. I have nothing new to write to you at present. I have a pretty good crop of corn and still keep planting. My potato crop looks very well. We have been a little dry but (had)a pretty good rain last Sunday. Crops (are) very backwards in this neighborhood. I received the money that you sent me and was glad to get it. I want you to write to me as often as you can and let me know how you are getting on and write whether you got the shoes that I sent you or not. I have not had a letter from Ben F. Harrison since you left here and I am anxious to hear from him and I have not had a letter from Wm. H. Harden since he went to Mobile. I am going to write to Isabelle and Mary this evening and when I get a letter from them I will write to you again and let you know how they are coming on, so write to me as soon as you can and let me know how you are getting on and write as often as you can, for I like to hear from you as often as I can.

Nothing more at present, only
