Dear Father and Mother,
I will drop you a few lines (to) let you know that me and William Henry is well at this time. I hope when (these) few lines comes to hand (they) may find you well and hearty and trying to serve the Lord in the best way you can. I got your kind (letter) the 6 of this (month) and I (was) glad to hear from you and sorry to hear that my dear brother was dead. If I could have seen (him) one more time in this life I would have been better satisfied. My dear brother is better off (than) we that is living now to see this war and troubles that we all have to see. I want to see you all one more time in this life. I hant heard nothing from Brother Benjamin, only what you wrote. Hant much to write to you at this time. (I) heard from William H.H. today. His letter was wrote the 9 of this (month). He hant well. He has had the fever. He is a'mending. He said that he would be a'home in two or three weeks if he could get a furlough. Nothing more at present.
