I hope these few (lines) will find (you) well and hearty. I heard from Will the 18 of this instant. He weren't well but was a'mending. He has had the fever. I hear Father's family was well last Sunday. My dear Brother John is dead. We don't know how. Soon we may die and must do that (which) is right and never do any thing that we think is wrong. I want to see you very bad. I hant much to write to you at present. My mind is troubled. Ann Single Yete Poke is here yet. The conscript was here last week and I must close. I will write more the next time. write to me soon as you get this.

621004  Continued on back, Mary E. to William D. Harrison

                            Dear Brother,

I this day embrace the opportunity of writing you a few lines which leave me and the children well except bad colds. We have all been sick with the bad cold. The baby and William was sick two weeks but they are getting well again. I hant got nothing good to write to you. Times is hard here and I think they are hard everywhere else I can hear of. William, you think I have forgot you I know but I hant  all this. I hant wrote to you since you (have) been gone, but it weren't because I did not want to for I have been so bothered in my mind till I could not. But, excuse me this time and write to me as soon as you get this and let me hear from you. I want to see you the worst I ever did I know. I want you to come to see me if you ever come home and see how big your namesake is. He grows the fastest I've ever seen. I think he weighs 35 pounds. So I must come to a close. I can't write half (as much as) I want to. Excuse bad writing and spelling.
