Dear Father,
I take my pen in hand to let you know that I am well and hearty at the present time and hoping when those few lines come safe to hand and find you all enjoying the same blessings of God. I received your kind letter and was glad to hear from you all. I hant got much to write to you at this time only I want to get out of the Mississippi mud and I would be glad to see Isabelle and the baby. You don't know how bad I do want to see them. I hant had a letter from William since I left Mobile. There is a plenty of Yankee's boats there and we have taken two gunboats from them and we can take some (more) of them if they would give us a half of a chance. They can't whip us never. Our regiment wants to get into a fight the worst you ever saw a regiment of men. I would be glad to see you all very much. You don't know how bad I do want to see you all. I want you to write to me as soon as you get this letter and let me hear from you all. I must come to a close, so nothing more at present, only
