Dear Father and Mother,

I am well and I hope that this will find you all the same. I have not much to write.  I like camps very well.  We have plenty to eat and plenty of fun.  We have good water to drink.  I want to see you all mighty bad but I don't know when I will get to see you all though. I hope that I can come soon as we whip the yankees.  If they would come out on land it wouldn't take us long to whip them.  We have got nothing new to write.  Time is dull is about all we know.  I want you to write all the news and all the particulars when you get this.  I want you to send me a pair of shoes by the Captain if you can.  I will send you 30 dollars by the Captain.  I received my clothes you sent by Mr. Hendrix and was happy to get them too Pa.  I want you to use my money as you think best.  I will close.

Your Affectionate Son Until Death
