Dear Father,
I this day seat myself to drop you a few lines to let you know that I am well at this time, hoping this may come safe to hand and find you well. I have no news to write to you at this time more than hard times. I have not got much war news to write to you at this time. Our men has been a-fighting in Mississippi for 9 or 10 days. They fetched a regiment of Yankees by here yesterday. If you have to go to the war, I want you to come here to our company. I think we will stay here. I want you to write to me as soon as you get this letter. I have not got any letter from William Harden since Sis left here. I can't tell anything about him. My paper is so bad I can't write. You must excuse my bad writing and spelling. I must close for this time. I will send you 25 dollars by Mrs. Jones.
