   Dear Sister
It is with great pleasure that I seat myself to drop you a few lines to let you know that I am well and hearty as you ever saw me in your life and truly hope this few lines may come safe to hand and find you all in the best of health.  I received your kind letter yesterday and was glad to hear that you was all well and doing well.  That is the first letter that I have had since Donking(?)Ansly came by here.  I want you to write to me as soon as you get this letter and write all the news you have in the settlement.  My dear sister, I can tell you we are camped in 50 yards of the prettiest and sweetest little girl you ever saw in your life.  She is the nicest girl in this town.  I will tell you about the fight in Chattanooga.  We have ran the yanks all away from there.  They can't fight us we know.  Very well know (that) we will have them all whipped in a few days if they don't mind.  I want you to write in your next letter if you think my likeness (photograph) favors me or not.  Tell all the children to write to me.  I have wrote to you about all I know about the war to be.  We have hard times here.  you must excuse my short letter.  I will do better next time so I will close, hoping to hear from you soon
