Dear Wife,
I seat myself this morning to drop you a few hasty lines to let you (know) that we received orders to cook all the rations that we have in our quarters and be ready to march at a minutes warning. I don't know where we will go. I expect somewhere about chattahoochie on the Four Mile Landing, Florida. I don't know whether I should ever return or not and if I don't and you never hear from me again you must resign(?) it the best you can for the ways of providence is mysterious and His way is past finding about. In haste, I must close remaining as ever
