I this morning avail myself of the opportunity of writing you a few lines which leave me well pleased with the company and regiment that I joined for they are a very pious regiment.  I was at preaching last Sabbath and they have prayer meetings every night in camps and there seems to be some reviving influence among the soldiers about 12 movers(?) Sunday night. There are a great many members of the church in this regiment and a good many men about my age.  I have nothing to write to you that would interest you at this time.  I don't know anything about when I will get the chance to come home.  The lieutenant says that we will get a furlough after a while but I can't tell (when).  I want you to gather and save the crop and put up my tool and take care of them.  After receiving my best respects and children, give a portion to all inquiring friends and write to me as soon  as you can and let me know how you and the children are getting on and give me the news in general.  I want you, if you get the chance, to send me my pants and try to get wool to make me a shawl or cape.  I must fetch my letter to a close and if we never meet in this world again, let us live that when we come to die that we will be prepared to meet in the world above where there will be no war and parting of wife and husband but all will be peace and happiness.

   Yours Truly Until Death
