Dear Wife,
I received your letter of the 5th (this) instant yesterday and was glad to hear from you and the children. I have not much to write to you at this time (that) will interest you. I got back to camps last night after a long tiresome march. We went to Pensacola and found no yanks there but two, a white and a negro and (have) taken them prisonerss and brought them to Pollard. the other detail that went to East Bay brought in some 15 or 20 deserters. You wrote that you was going to send me my clothing by John Northcut and if you did, I don't know where they are for the letter that I got from you was mailed at Montgomery. Write to me about (it) as soon as you get this letter. I want you to do the best you can and when there comes another frost, I want you to dig up my sugarcane and bed it as near the fodder stack as you can so that (I) can fence it with as little trouble as possible and have as many peas packed as you can and knit me a pair of gloves and nickers for I don't know where we shall have to go this winter. I think that I will get a 48 hour permit to come home. So, nothing more at present only (I) remain your affectionate husband until death
Give my best respects to all inquiring friends. Yours Truly John C. Harrison
