631217 FROM: John C. Harrison LOCATION: Camps near Pollard TO: possibly to William D. Harrison LOCATION: DATE: December 17, 1863 I seat myself this morning to write you a few lines which leaves me well, hoping that these few lines may come safe to hand and find you enjoying the same blessings of God. I received your kind letter of (the) 6th (this) instant and was very glad to hear that you was well and hearty. I have been home on a fifteen day furlough and the children was getting better and I am in hopes that they are well by this time though I have not heard from them since I left last Saturday and they was getting on very well then. I have nothing to write to you at this time that would interest you. Times is very well in camps here and the soldiers are very well in spirits and are sick and tired of the war. I have not had a letter from Wm Harden since he went back to his command. Isabelle was at my house when (he) went home. She was there when your mother died and said that she might come and stay with the children after Christmas. I will close for the present. Write to me as often as you can for I am always glad to hear from you. Give my best respects to all inquiring friends and keep a double portion to (your) self.
Your Affectionate Father Until Death John C. Harrison
Note: I estimate this as to William D. Harrison since He refers to himself as father, the girls would have known this information, Benjamin is dead and he speaks of William Henry Harden.
