Dear Brother,
I take my pen in hand to let you know that we are all well at present
in hopping that these few lines may come safe to hand and find you well
and hardy. I received your letter the
other day and was glad to hear from you and hear that you was well. I
heard from father the 26th of December
(reference letter 631226) and he was well and hardy. I have nothing
much to write to you at present for my mind
is troubled so that I can't write much. I would (have) been glad if you
could (have) come home before mother died for
she did want to see you once more but she did not get to see you. Dear
brother I (am) in hope that you will
live right and do right so when you come to die you will be as happy as she was.
And brother you said that you
would send them cards to me or bring them to me unless they are mighty
high but I am obliged to have a
pair of cards if I can get them. I sent you a pair of pants and a pair
of socks and a pair of galles (gloves?) and
some ground peas (peanuts) by John King. I want you to write to me as
soon as you can. Nothing more.
Until death only I remain your truly Sister
Martha A. Harrison to William D. Harrison
Write! Write!
