Welcome to the Civil War
Journal Home Page
Welcome
to our site. This was originally conceived as a place to display the
text of our family letters. The original concept is still here but has
expanded to include other information, graphics, links, essays, unit
and battle information.
In brief: The collection of letters included
are from our family collection which were donated to a museum in
Daphne Alabama. There are more than seventy letters dating from
1860-1865. Our family is descended from the John C. Harrison family of
Evergreen Alabama. The letters are written by my Great-great
Grandfather, John C. Harrison, his wife and family. Although they
generally would have been considered mundane when written, 140 years
passing has greatly increased their importance and significance through
the most turbulent time in the history of the United States.
I have recently added the full collection of High Resolution
images of all the letters and documents I had available. I added
a collection of Maps
from the Civil War Period. These have been downloaded from the
Library of Congress and are free to use as you please. To view the maps
you will need the Mr SID Viewer which is available on the map page or
The
letter scans are free to download only for personal use and are not to
be sold or made available for a fee. They are not authorized for
linking or uploading to other websites. If you wish to link to these
images, please link to the respective pages on this site. No
hot-linking of images please.
This site
is new and will be updated and added to as time allows. Thank you for
visiting.
